Each training day comprises a classroom session setting out the history, nature and objects of the scheme with an introduction to the identification of the insects found in our rivers which are the subject of the exercise. The classroom session is followed by a practical session where each trainee will take a sample from the river and work through to identify the insects of interest, guided by trainers and other Riverfly monitors. You will be given a training pack including an ID guide.
Tea/ coffee and biscuits provided (Please bring your own lunch)
You will learn:
- Correct techniques for taking the sample in the river.
- How to identify the target species
- History of the Riverfly programme
Please bring:
- Pen and paper,
- Waders (if you have them) or wellies
- Waterproof coat and clothing for the weather
- Lunch
